Appointment of Acting Head Teacher
I am pleased to report that Mr J. Farquhar, currently Depute Head Teacher at Dumfries Academy, has been appointed as the Acting Head Teacher with effect from Tuesday 18 April. Mr Farquhar is delighted to be joining our school community and I have every confidence that under his leadership the school will continue to thrive.
Mr Farquhar will be in communication with you as soon as he is in post but I wanted to share this information with you as soon as I received it.
I am confident that I will be leaving the school in good hands and I am sure you will join me in welcoming Mr Farquhar to Dumfries High School.
Dear Pupils, Parents/Carers
RED NOSE DAY IN DUMFRIES HIGH SCHOOL, FRIDAY 24 MARCH 2017
Red Nose Day is an event that Dumfries High School has supported for a number of years. This year’s Red Nose Day is on Friday 24 March. We are supporting Red Nose Day with a Non-Uniform day. If pupils wish to support this worthy cause, then they can donate £1 which will be collected during registration classes on Friday morning. Pupils are reminded that they are not to wear any football colours or clothing which has foul language or inappropriate symbols. If of course there are any pupils who do not wish to support Red Nose Day, then they should come to school wearing full school uniform as normal.
We thank you in advance for your support.
I wanted to let you know that I will be leaving after the Easter holidays to take up the post of Head Teacher at Irvine Royal Academy in North Ayrshire. My final leaving date has still to be confirmed but once I know I will of course communicate this with you. Please know that my decision to leave was difficult because I am forever heartened by each and every single pupil in our school and the positivity and motivating factors that they bring every day. As the Christmas break draws ever closer, I wanted to inform you of arrangements for the last day of term.
The school day starts and begins at the usual times: 9am and 3.35pm.
Pupils can wear non-school uniform (no football tops) and donate £1. The proceeds from our non-uniform day will go to local para-athlete, 18 year old Shelby Watson. Shelby spoke passionately and with determination this year at our annual prizegiving about her experiences of training for major national and international titles in wheelchair racing. She holds world records for the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m T33 races. Shelby is trying to raise funds for a new wheelchair to assist her in her training regime for the next Olympics. Dumfries High School wants to support her with this. Continue reading
